History

On November 19, 2008, Kyle Eslick of WPhacks.com put up the domain names WordPressTavern.com and WPTavern.com for sale. In December of 2008, Jeff Chandler contacted Kyle and acquired the domains from him.

On January 23rd, 2009, WP Tavern launched with Jeff as the primary author. On June 8th, 2011, Jeff announced a new site owner although they wished to remain anonymous. One of the key stipulations from the new owner was that all advertising had to be removed from the site.

On May 20th, 2013, the new owner was revealed to be Matt Mullenweg. Jeff Chandler was hired by Mullenweg’s company Audrey.co to manage WP Tavern’s content. Since then, WP Tavern has added a number of contributing writers to help expand the site’s coverage of the WordPress ecosystem.
